2011 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Nick Clark of OCP Contractors
His Winning Work:  The metal framing and drywall in the narthex, tabernacle and sanctuary at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church

Demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship, carpenter Nick Clark completed the metal framing and drywall installation in the narthex, tabernacle and sanctuary at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Clark led a crew of nine to complete the series of arched columns and windows throughout the 37,566 square foot structure.

This specialty installation required the use of a track bender and the creation of special templates to ensure that all of the arches are uniform and the drywall reveals and recesses are symmetrical.

Clark was responsible for confirming the calculations needed for a precise layout and determining the required materials.

In addition to making sure the arches match perfectly from column to column, Clark faced the added challenge of performing most of the work from a scissor lift and transferring dimensions from the floor.

A member of Carpenters Local Union 200, Clark has been in the industry for seven years and has been employed by OCP Contractors for the past two years.

This is Clark’s first Craftsmanship Award. He started his carpentry training by attending the Laurel Oaks Career Center and becoming a union apprentice. Clark has also worked on projects at Polaris Fashion Place Mall and at The Ohio State University.
