2011 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Jud Cline formerly with K.E. Dittmar Company, Inc.
His Winning Work:  The stone facing and installation on the building exterior and interior fireplace at the Orange Branch of the Delaware County Library

The interior and exterior stone facing and installation at the Orange Branch of the Delaware County Library is the exceptional work of Jud Cline.

Nearly 300 tons of stone, from a quarry just south of Lake Erie, was delivered to the site where Cline and his crew of 11 hand-hewed each piece into clean rectangular shapes.

The exterior features a variety of angles as well as other building materials, like storefront glass and wood siding. This required Cline’s careful coordination of the stone placement in order to accommodate the other trades and ensure plumb lines.

Several of the stones include fossils that appeared on the face. Cline specifically used these pieces in the children’s section of the library at a level where they can be viewed and enjoyed for many years to come.

Cline has been in the masonry trade for 22 years. He was with International Masonry for 14 years, and is currently employed by Miles-McClellan Construction Co., Inc.

This is Cline’s first Craftsmanship Award. He has been a crew member for past award recipients, including work at the Jones Day Office Building in 2005 and St. Mary’s Macedonian Church in 2006.
