2011 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Steve Engle of Mid-City Electric Co.
His Winning Work:  The installation of electrical service and systems at a new retail data center

Careful planning and attention to detail helped Steve Engle expertly install the electrical service and systems at a new retail data center in central Ohio.

Winter weather, a tight timeline and a congested workspace were just some of the challenges encountered by Engle and his crew of 94 electricians. Nearly 70,000 man hours were completed in less than nine months.

Most of the conduit for the 80,000-square-foot building is housed underground. Engle had the foresight to install additional conduit for the security and building control systems so the final installation would not have any exposed conduit.

In addition to installing enough electrical wire to reach from Columbus to Cincinnati, Engle was also responsible for the installation of two 35kV circuits, five 2.5 MVA transformers and five 2500kw generators.

A member of Electrical Workers Local Union 683, Engle has been an electrician for 24 years. He has been employed by Mid-City Electric Co. for the past 15 years.

A fourth-generation electrician, Engle is receiving his first Craftsmanship Award. His father Frank was recognized with an award in 1997 for his work at Mount Carmel West - a project they worked on together.
