2011 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Dean Meier of The Superior Group
His Winning Work:  The electrical distribution in the facility power house and west mechanical room at JP Morgan Chase

The electrical skill and experience of Dean Meier are evident in the facility power house and west mechanical room at JP Morgan Chase.

Replacing the incoming electrical service and distribution equipment for a data center and office area was the focus of this major project.

A key concern for Meier was completing the work without the interruption of power to any critical systems, while continuing to maintain electrical distribution redundancy.

With a crew of 28, Meier replaced two 15kV distribution transformers, 2 main switchboards and the generator control and distribution switchboard. Nearly 71,000 feet of wire was installed within 10,460 feet of conduit.

Meier worked with the design team to adjust the equipment layout due to space constraints and plan a sequence for replacement that would minimize any downtime.

The outage schedule was complicated by two UPS replacement projects that were taking place simultaneously.

A member of Electrical Workers Local Union 683, Meier has been in the construction industry for nearly 25 years. He has been employed by The Superior Group for 15 years.

This is Meier’s first Craftsmanship Award. He has worked primarily at the JP Morgan facility since the mid 1990’s. He has also worked on data centers at several Huntington Bank facilities.
